Ive had my mare nearly 3 months now, when I got her she was underweight Ive been giving her 3 feeds a day of speedibeet, Alfa A Oil and Baileys top line cubes and she is gaining weight and filling out nicely.
The problem is she obviously has more energy now, I lunged her this morning and she spent a good 10 minutes bucking and playing about.
Im nearly out of topline cubes and wondered if I should try Allen & Page Calm & Condition instead or wont that make a difference?

Can you drop back down to HiFibre nuts, but continue with the Alfa Oil (which I love)? Ensing that she gets plenty of good quality haylage etc.

My WB is on the same as yours (but 2 feeds per day) except he's on normal beet not speedibeet and I give him baileys outshine too. He is naturally prone to being very fizzy but he isn't on this diet. Of course all horses are different but I wonder if speedibeet could be what's fizzing him up?? I think I've seen posts about speedibeet causing fizz before on here - might be worth a quick search.

Also, mine doesn't seem to gain any weight on Calm and Condition, I switched him from that a few months after I got him as he came on it and was really skinny and not putting any on.

Baileys Top Line Cubes are excellent for putting on condition but do contain wheat which is quite starchy and therefore tends to make some horses a bit excitable. Now she is gaining weight you could swap the Baileys for Spillers Response Slow Release Cubes - not as calorific as the Baileys but still considerably more conditioning than high fibre cubes, and the calories are in the form of fibre and oil rather than fizz-producing cereals.

Calm and Condition is less starchy than some conditioning feeds but does still contain maize and quite a few forum users have reported their horses hotting up on it.

[/ QUOTE ] Speedibeet is only 5% sugar whilst normal mollassed beet is 20% sugar, so mollassed beet is much more likely to fizz them up than Speedibeet!

check out a feed called coolstance coprameal. it is made from coconut, so it is purely fibre and oil. it is a fantastic feed and it doesnt send them loopy.
