What would you be feeding to this horse?

16.2hh Gelding. Had an injury in the summer so was off work. slowly been bought back into work and currently starting trot work at 5 mins and upping by 5 mins weekly. Vets advice to get muscle built back up to support the injured site. Hill work / pole work / Pessoa to build the topline.

But not sure what feed to give to support the muscle building. He is currently fed adlib hay at night heaped scoop of alfa-a lite split between breakfast and dinner with vit and min supplement. Grazing has enough grass but is winter grass, out for around 3-4 hours a day or in the stable all day with more adlib hay if the weather is bad. He is looking pretty good weight wise with a lovely shiney healthy coat, so the adlib hay is obviously doing its job. He does not need anything for furthur energy or excitability, he has plenty for himself! Just need some protein added to the feed with out the extra weight conditioning.

He was being fed Speedibeet and Micronised linseed as additional (without the ad lib hay) just standard amount of hay. at the beginning of the year to help build the muscle but it never seemed to come. Which maybe the injury which was undetected at this time may have been a contribution as to why the muscle did not come. But he was twice a week lunged in the equi-ami and working correctly from behind in the school. So am a bit reluctant to go down the speedibeet and linseed route again as it didn't seem to work for him last time.

So any other ideas? I did start on the baileys topline conditioning cubes previously as well, but they then the injury was found so he was taken off of all the additional feed whilst on box rest.

Thanks :)

I am currently trying for the same with my 16,2 warmblood, I am feeding him the following which seems to be working in our case .. (he is barefoot so try to avoid too much starch / sugar )

4kg StayPower cubes
1kg Build and Grow
Pro Hoof supplement
additional salt

he is currently out 24/7 with access to good quality haylage the entire time (the hay rack is never empty)
he is worked 6 days a week - before the nights drew in he hacking and schooling on alternate days .. the hacking (if they are really striding out) is really effective .. obviously since the clocks have gone back , we can only do this at weekends.

I did try a Rice product (German brand) .. but did not seem to help much .. he has been on the Build and Grow only a week or so , so can't really say if this is working yet .. am considering whether it would make more sense to use Linseed - but need to source a good supply here. (in Germany)
