i would like some advice please on what to feed this pony.he`s about 14hh and not very old.
a little background info...
i have some grass liveries who arrived 2 weeks ago and i am `keeping an eye `on them.the place they have come from was nearly plough but they are on ample grazing now.they are looking ok for horses that are not in work and live out.
but the one who is bottom of the heap is a bit poor for my liking.the first week he was rather sad and had very sloppy poos,i have been giving him 2lb of alfa a a day and and he has perked up.
what could i do for him to tide him over till the grass comes through?

all mine live on fresh air so advice needed please.
also,i have rugged him.

Is he getting adlib haylage??

no,he is not.i do not know how long he has been with the group, but he is gradually being allowed in.it is just a field,i visit once a day and drive by later.i take him out for the bucket food but any thing else would be eaten by the others.in an ideal world i would bring him back to my yard at home but this would cost them more.
do you think i should add some barley rings?oil?

Personally I would either have him in so that he can get hay overnight - or ensure that all the horses have access to good quality adlib hay.

The weather is not going to improve - and it may be difficult to get any condition on him with just 1 bucket of feed a day.

worming and teeth most important to check but remember that when the grass does come through, being a pony, he is likely to balloon! It's normal for them to be a bit poor this time of year as they would naturally get fat in spring summer and then lose it over winter. If he's healthy and warm enough I wouldn't worry - Unless he's losing more weight or super skinny!

Think the grass is coming through now anyway, Lawn definitely looks longer! God knows what this weathers doing!
