At the moment my little mare gets nothing (I'm a cruel mummy!) and she looks fine for it, she's out all year round and has adlib hay when grass is low etc but never has hard feed. She only works a couple of times a week really and this seems fine.

But now I have someone who will be coming to school her 5 days a week and will be working her much harder than she's used to (obv building up gently)

She tends to be quite a boney pony, doesn't carry much weight and always loses it very easily so I want to start giving her something in the evenings but I don't really know where to start!

All advice welcome please

She is a rising 6 PBA, 14.3hh

I would start her off with just fibre feeds and see how she goes; Its about springtime so grass will be more calorific soon; I suggest one of the Dengie chaffs like the Alfa A original and some high fibre cubes/nuts and maybe some speedi-beet, don't forget to give small amounts to start with!

Ditto jakesmydog really: Fibre based with a vit/min supplement. e.g. D&H Fibergy or hifi. If more protein and energy needed, alfalfa. If still more energy needed unmollassed sugar beet.
