Hi everyone, for the first time in my horsey life I am totally responsible for a horses feed and I feel a little out of my depth!

He's a 14.2hh welsh x appaloosa, in light/medium work, turned out 24/7 but there isn't much grass - he shares about a third of an acre with two other horses. At the moment he gets half a scoop of d+h pasture mix, a big handful of chaff and a couple of handfuls of pony nuts. He also gets about 3 kilos of hay once a day.

Does this seem fair? Or too much? Or just totally wrong!

Thanks for any advice

Ummm, is this pony a good-doer? If he is anything like other Welshies (and I appreciate he is a cross), then he is getting fed far, far too much for the time of year.

If he's out 24/7, he doesn't need the hay, even on poor grazing (do you have any pics of the grazing?). He doesn't need pasture mix or pony nuts. A bit of chaff with his vits and mins is fine.

Do you have any pics of the horse? What condition score is he? Can you feel his ribs etc?
