Oh, now that you mention pollen, I had ANOTHER horse that was violently allergic to oil seed rape pollen and could only be turned out at night until it had been harvested.
My TB has just been recently diagnosed with "hayfever" Though not sure what triggers it off. He has a ventolin inhaler with a kiddie mask to go over his nostril
Not sure what was in the equivite to trigger it off but it was definietly equivite.
Good grief, that's a bit of a facer isn't it? Equivite triggering hay fever, mind you I do wonder if the appy being allergic to the alfalfa 'permitted' the pollen allergy to start. ( I seem to have a crumb under the s, apologies if I miss one or two)
I do actually wonder though if a food allergy can maybe trigger a vulnerability to other allergies/intolerances, hmm I shall think about this. I know my sister has many food intolerances and now is photosensetive too.
Thanks, all.
I've taken my lumpy 3yo off the Equivite and the treats as of this morning, and reduced the mix to one handful, then will reduce it to half a handful then none.
She's not that bothered about it anyway - as long as she gets her half apple.
Will keep you all posted regarding her lumpiness or, hopefully, smoothness.
my lad is allergic to barley. his reaction looks very similar to sweet itch which is what we thought he had for many many years. We took him off his usual feed and popped him onto the allen and page sugar and cereal free mix. he stopped scratching within a couple of days, then we introduced straight concentrates untill he reacted.,
Hope she is gettng better! Supplements can have barley and cereals in them so the lumps could very well be that. Other posters are right - barley intolerance is quite comon. I bought a foot supplement from Feedmark - within a few days my horse was seriously acting up. Despite the fact I had carefully gone over what was in it on the website - they really only listed vits and minerals. On the tub it said Barley. Feedmark were brilliant - got a full refund and they sent a coriour to pick up the feed so I didn't have to go to the hassle of postng it back to them.
My mare's got a sugar/starch intollerance - we had months of repeat colicking - it was an absolute nightmare - we took her off all grazing, stabled her and fed her one thing at a time to see what happened - side effects of the sugar include spooky/nappy behaviour/colicking/bloating and a VERY bad temper
Thanks, H's mum...
She's not colicky, the opposite of spooky (today she admired a hot air balloon passing about 100ft above her head), not bloated, just curvy, and has a really sweet nature.
She's just lumpy....am in the middle of feed reduction now, so time will tell.
