Hi, I have a 17hh ID x WB who is not in work at the moment due to arthritis. He is 8 years old and overweight.
He gets roughly 6 hours at the most turnout a day which be needs due to his arthritis. The grass he is grazing on is pretty good. He's out with my other on about an acre. I tried fencing a smaller amount off for him but he kept getting out to join his mate!
I feed him a couple of handfuls of hifi lite twice a day n a vit n min supp plus cortaflex.
The main problem is that he is currently on haylage! I got him last summer and he was obese then, I got a lot of the weight off him and could see his ribs last month! This past month though he has ballooned! I moved him here last month and he refused to touch his hay! After 10 days of him not eating at night I gave in and put him on haylage which of course he ate! He's been on it ever since! He is a gannet and although I double net soon scoffs a large net down before 8pm so I put a small net up to see him through and there is some left in the morning!
Iv got no chance of getting him off the haylage now until next year so was considering hay replacements. Iv got some readigrass but not sure if too fattening for him? Any ideas?
Also I'm under rugging him but really need to shift some weight off before spring!! If anyone can help or knows of a diet plan which may help I would be so grateful!
Sorry it's long!! X
