I am thinking of changing to a feed balancer since my 17.1 currently only has a handful of pasture nuts, broadspectrum vitamin suppliment, biotin and garlic (and 2 big scoops of hifi lite twice a day, fruit and veg, ad lib hay or haylage and good quality strip grazing). He is the right weight, nice shiney coat etc (and you can see the better quality hoof growing down) and has enough energy.....

It seems that a feed balancer like the dodson and horrell Ultimate Balancer or Blue chip will do the job of the nuts, vits and biotin... and I wont have as many tubs etc to store!

But they contain cows milk powder, which doesnt seem like a natural thing to feed a horse!? I would be interested to hear what your experiences of giving a feed containing milk (positive or negitive!) have been (since they will be less biased than the suppliers endorsements!)?

I have known severly underweight horses fed milk powder to help them get back to a normal weight following mistreatment. it worked wonders for them

Milk powder is fine for horses as provides a natural source of fat. However, I recommend Topspec balancer as opposed to BC though as is cheaper and does a better job!!

I am thinking of buying TopSpec for my TB, is it any good? He is very spooky and I've been told it may help level his temperament better than a calmer. Does anyone else have any experience with it?

I have been using D&H ultimate balancer for 5 weeks now since I bought Jerry and now he has lost his bloated belly and hat rack ribs and now looks loads healthier. He has also been fed D&H build up cubes with pasture mix.
