I am looking for a feed balancer/ supplement to give my horse. She is a TB so nothing that might cause her to become fizzy! I have heard good things about Blue Chip and Top Spec- has anyone ever used either? I'm looking for something to make sure she is getting all the vitamins etc she needs. Any opinions/ suggestions?

Blue Chip was awful, topspec was good but too pricey, currently on Baileys lo cal and happy with this

Give Dengie a call if you just want vit and mins. There range is really resonably priced (approx£15 and pot which last me 2 months) and quite varied depended on what sort of horse you want. They also send you a £2 off voucher to try it out! I feed the performance one and I'm really happy with it.

My bay gets Topspec, he does brilliantly on it.

We recently had a Dengie rep out who gave me a free tub of the Senior supplement for our other one who is 18. However one tub only lasts 11 days so wont be buying any of that!

I cant rate them highly enough, our bay was like a hat rack when we got him, and the TopSpec, he also gets the cool condition cubes, really got the condition on, without the fizz.
Remember though if you are feeding a feed balancer then you need to make sure you are balancing the diet, thats why I like Topspec Cool Conditoin cubes, because they dont have the vits and minerals in, the balancer does, then I can increase or decrease the amount of cubes he gets if needed, while making sure he is still getting everything he needs by feeding the balancer.

Topspec is fab stuff. Is cheaper than Blue Chip, my hgorses feet are improving all the time since he has been on it, i feed barely any hard feed and he looks and feels fab. Really rate it.

I honestly belive if your horse is on a good quality feed/hay/grass there is no real need for thease very expencive ballancers.
I run horses at 3* level and have had horses on it for a year and then off it since with no differance (6 different horses)
NAF do a excellent multi vit (general purpose) for a fraction of the cost, which i give to younger horses on low rations.

Mine just has happy hoof which has everything they need in it- much cheaper too

The NAF vits and mins refill packs are cheaper so look for that if you already have a container!

I have my boy on Top Spec Comprehensive at the moment because he is on box rest following an injury (5 weeks and counting) and the hay we have is not that great at the moment, so I was concerned that he would be missing out on something. He is an extremely good doer!

I've been using Bailey's lo-cal for just a week so far, and he looks good on it already, his coat is a lot more shiny already.

I'd echo what some of the others say - if it is just vits/mins that you want then think about feeding a broad spectrum vitamin and mineral supplement, rather than a balancer.

I looked into this and the cost difference between Baileys lo-cal and Dengie vits and mins wasn't much, the Dengie given at the correct rate for my boy lasts a month and is £16 and lo-cal is £18 and lasts me a month (3 mugs a day), prefered the idea of lo-cal as it gives George something extra to chomp on! Have been using lo-cal for a few weeks and George's coat is really shining and he looks well (but that could be the fuss and carrots!). If you ring Baileys they will send you a sample, measuring mug and a £2 voucher.

Wow. The Dengie supplement I use, which is the Performance (horses in moderate work) last me just under 2 months at the correct dosage. It's RRP is £15 (although my local merchant sell it at £13

). Have to say when I was looking for vits and mins I didn't go for the balancer because I wanted to feed him what he actually needed, not just everything. That's why I was impressed with Dengie.

I used the Top Spec balancer for my horse, and within a week he was nervy, hyper and generally 'on the edge'. I rang Top Spec, and they sent me a tub of their Comprehensive supplement. I stopped the balancer, my horse got back to his normal self, and then I started feeding the Comprehensive. It was great, with no side effects on his temperament. So therefore I would recommend that, rather than the balancer. It is more economical, too.

My lad has Blue Chip & he's really well on it. It is expensive but considering he is only given a very small amount in comparison with how other feeds are given it doesn't work out that expensive.

Have mine on Bailey's lo cal as I can't feed recommended amnt of mix or cubes as she is prone to getting a bit tubby! I found it about the same price as a tub of vits and means I can put it in her ball. She has this with Alpha A (not much in the summer) and a bit of oats if I need to perk her up. She looks good so no complaints here.

I am a big Lo Cal fan,my mare is superb on it,she's been on it for 3yrs and also has a bit of chaff and sugar beet in winter and thats it. My new horse will also go on it as no doubt it'll be a native or x native at least and they do tend to put on weight easily.I love this stuff it has biotin in it for feet so no extra supplements needed really.I give mine cider vinegar and garlic alongside it and thats it.

I used topspec comprehensive through the winter and found it good, he kept most of his condition and his summer coat came through really nice. Then swapped to Pink Powder to help with his gut as he gets very loose in the summer, it has helped with this and also he looks much better than he did last summer when he had no vitamin supplements at all.

He is not fed any mix/cubes with this.

i use topspec leisuretime and i think its fab-costs £20 per bag (including £5 voucher off which they will send you, and then you get one on the bag for the next bag) which lasts about 2/3 months. It gave him a fab coat and he kept condition well:)

I have used TopSpec for a few years now and my horse looks fab on it! Give them a ring or an e-mail and they will advise you on which one to use

i rated blue chip, not using it now though as the price seems to keep inching up, had good results though

another Baileys lo-cal user here - on one warmblood who loses weight and condition easily and one cob who gains weight and goes a bit loopy easily! You will only hear praise from me.........its great and i always get comments on how well they both look!
