Feed change? NOT VERY LONG =D

Im currently feeding my Arab x Welsh section D on 800g ofhorse + pony mix and 300g of Speedi beet with 30g of garlic.

Im thinking about changing his feed to Out shine and speedi beet (with his supplement and soya oil) or Out shine and hi-fi (With his supplement and soya oil).

Would that be a good change?
Which would be best Outshine and speedi beet or out shine and hi-fi?

Outshine for his coat
Hi-fi as its slow release/non heating
Speedi beet was only to keep him warm (using boiling water to soak it in) as he's living out until i get him a stable.

In his old home he was only fed horse+pony mix.
 
Is your horse in good condition now? Does he need to lose or gain weight? Is his temperament good, or do you find him a bit fizzy? What is he getting apart from bucket feed (ie grazing, hay, haylage - don't forget that this is the most important part of his diet!)
 
No, ive only just bought him.
His weight is fine
He has his days, sometimes its fizzy others it isnt.
24/7 grazing, and a haynet full of haylage a day
 
If his weight is just fine and you just want to improve his coat, then I would suggest you give him 100ml of oil per day - vegetable oil, soya oil, linseed oil or corn oil depending on your preference and pocket. Outshine is great if you want to feed a lot of oil for weight gain, as it supplies the necessary antioxidants for a high oil diet, plus is more palatable and less messy than feeding large amounts of oil. However, for coat shine you only need a small amount of oil so the extra antioxidants are not needed, plus normally most horses will eat 100ml of oil in their feed quite happily, so the extra expense of Outshine is not normally required.

If you find him a little bit fizzy sometimes, then swap the horse and pony mix for high fibre cubes, which will have fewer cereals in them.

As for whether to mix with speedibeet or hifi - speedibeet does contain more calories (dry weight) than hifi, so if he tends to gain weight then HiFi might be best, if he tends to lose it then speedibeet. Otherwise just go with what he likes best and is easiest for you to feed!
