Hi, I have a New forest and a New Forest x TB. I was feeding them both happy hoof as my mare had lami a few years back (touch wood hasn't had it since). My TBx had happy hoof as well just in case although he is built completely differently and not as much a good doer. Someone suggested to me I was wasting money buying happy hoof for them both and instead to buy 'Just Grass' and use an everyday supplement. So I have been doing this for 4 months. The problem is I just read that Just grass is not suitable for lamanitics. I've been reading all the feed websites and am completely confused, should I get 'safe and sound' which has all the vitamins etc. in it but you seem to need to feed nearly 2 scoops a day to get the right amount of vitamins and that wouldn't be what the TBx would need? I'm really confused with what I am feeding now, Is Just Grass not really a proper feed mixed with supplement, is it too much for ponies prone to lamanitis and could I carry on feeding that to the TBX or should he have something else? Any help would be great!

Hi,
I personally wouldnt recommend Just Grass for a laminitic. I use it to keep weight on my TB. I swear by it for weight gain!!!
I have a laminitic though, and i feed her happy hoof. Shes shiny, Happy, Healthy and turns her nose up at anything else. In my opinion id stick to the Happy Hoof.
If you feed Happy Hoof at the recommended daily allowance, it will give all the vits and mins the horse needs.
If you dont, like me who only feeds a handful, add a broad spectrum vit and min supplement.
But i certainly wouldnt be giving just grass, we wouldnt keep lami prone ponies on lush grass so i wouldnt give it to them as a feed! Hope this helps!
