I have a horse that is currently fed on speedy beet and alfalfa plus. He's napping terribly, and not just standing still napping, jumping up and spinning napping. I'm gradually taking him off the sugar beet (he's a loan horse and he was on these feeds when I got him) but I've been advised to take him off the alfalfa as well as it might not be helping his napping issue. I was advised to give him freeze dried grass, I think it's called Just Grass. Could anyone offer me any diet advice that might help with the napping? Obviously I'm not expecting miracles just because I change his feed but maybe there's some feed that's better than others.

Does he actually need a feed? I would take him off everything except hay and grass, the napping may well not be related to the diet if he is new to you it may just be a phase of testing that he is going through and this needs addressing as well as it is not acceptable, I would speak to his owners as they may have dealt with this previously and be able to give you some help on what steps to take.
