Feed during spring/summer?

Hello! We have an 11month old warmblood gelding, currently standing at 14.1hh. We don't pick him up until the end of March and when he comes to us we will be keeping him at grass, although the grazing is fair. Should we feed him anything else or will he be ok just on the grass? Also, should we turn him out 24/7 or bring him in at night?It is my first time with a yearling and so I want to make sure I do it right. If extra feed is required can you suggest a good one please? I keep getting conflicting answers wherever i turn so help is needed!

Personally aside from bringing them in to learn about stables and other such thing I think youngsters should live out!

I would not feed anything except a vit/min lick in the field and adlib hay in the winter.

The very worst thing you can do is over feed a youngster and then you will end up with joint problems and twisted legs.

Most youngsters do not need any more than the above anyway.

I agree with this ^^

Although i do like my youngsters to come in at night during the winter to get used to everyday things like grooming and behaving to come in and be turned out.
Learning these things early on when they are small is essential IMO - then theres no excuse for bad manners and bolshy-ness when they grow up :)
 
My youngsters get a handful of chaff (graze -on) with a broad spec vit&min supplement, using benevit advance from feedmark at the mo.

I like mine to live out 24/7, but they come in for an hour or so during the day, to hang out in the stable, be groomed, pick up feet etc etc.
