Can anyone recommend something to add to my New Forests Feed for a bit of a lift.

He is 7yrs old and He currently has Spillers Lite & Lean with some micronised Linseed. Lives out 24/7 with adequate grass/hay.

He is lacking a bit of energy at the moment, i want to give him a bit of a lift, without blowing his brain!
He is a very sensible boy and so i don’t want to make him wired!

Maybe worth having some bloods run to check all is well? My NF mare was lacking energy and all was fine with results apart from she was positive for exposure to Lymes. In the presence of nothing else she was treated with doxy. I also had a blood tonic from the vet to help boost her.

Its nothing he needs bloods for, he has energy in the field with his field mate, he just lacks enthusiasm with schooling sometimes and having he is more go than woah!
I just think he maybe needs a bit more energy through feed

Could the grass be making him bloated? My experience with natives is that they can enjoy the grass a bit too much and then can't be bothered. Some off grass time can make them feel more energetic.

Oats or power and performance is what showing friends have used on laid back horses that needed a bit of sparkle.

I accidentally fed the power and performance to Arabi once I never did it again, having Arab's I don't ever need feed for extra energy😆

I feed my competition mare Spillers Stamina cubes and found that made a difference without making her silly.

Cupful of oats. We use a jam jar, buy porridge oats because you don’t need many. Give 3/4 of a jam jar and whoosh, energy without craziness. I have to say if you give too many you definitely know it, because the whizz arrives, but it’s an otherwise economical fix.

i gave my, usually very exuberant welsh, some oats before our last show to give her a bit of oomph because she just falls asleep in the ring, and it did nothing🤣 so following!

*nothing concerning, she bounds across the show ground and just goes flat in the ring

Porridge oats ??! Really ? Why would you ? What’s wrong with horse oats ? Rolled or crushed ?

I'm surprised that as little as a jam jars amount would make a difference too.
Oh yes it does! Mind you, our biggest pony last winter was 12.3hh! More than a jam jar and…oops! I got the amounts from a website - will find it and link.

Rats is the succinct answer. We weren’t using a whole bag fast enough and a large bag of porridge oats could be stored in the kitchen in the house much more easily.

I sincerely doubt a horse would even notice a jam jar of oats (My TB used to eat scoops full without any effect bar weight maintenance), but we’re talking native pony here.
