I do not give hard feed to anything, they all have a good field lick and good haylage, and do well on it. So I’m not very up to date with current feeds!
But I now have a pony needing a bit of extra condition. She has Cushings, diagnosed in summer, is medicated and doing well. She has always been a poor doer and has never had laminitis.

What could I add for her? I’d give barley but unsure if that will be a good idea with the cushings?

Thank you!

I used to feed allen&page fast fibre to my cushings mare in the winter, I added some baileys light chaff to give a bit more bulk and she did really well on it and never had lami

This year I tried my 25 year old cushings horse on Cushcare (Dodson and Horrell) Having struggled in the last two winters to maintain weight, he looks really well on it

My 26yr is cushings pony gets grass nuts, gain opticare balancer and a conditioning mix.

He also gets a bucket of senior super mash at bedtime, plus a bucket of chaff when he comes in.
Plus hay and haylage.
(He also had rubbish teeth).

Mine is a fuss pot. I have got to the point that I feed him a tiny amount of whatever he will eat to get his medication in to him.
Currently, but won’t last is Moles own Hifi lite and Dodson and Horrell pasture mix. Both make me die inside a little if I think too much about it but he gets, literally a handful of each and in a month or so he won’t like it anyway. Although I have to say this has been our longest run on one feed by miles. He usually only accepts feed for a month at most usually before it’s all change!

I think barley tends to be high starch so I'd avoid that personally. Linseed is great for adding condition, and it's safe for cushings horses. Otherwise I stick with any feeds below 10% combined sugar and starch. I've also used linseed oil, alfalfa based chaffs or pellets (high protein but low starch/ sugar), and soya flakes or meal.

Mine has Cushcare with Haycare, but she’s very fussy.

You could just go with Fast Fibre and micronised linseed, or even Linseed mixed with Speedibeet.

I used to feed my elderly skinny lami/cushings pony Alfa A Oil, high fibre cubes and micronised linseed ( upto nearly half a stubbs scoop full per feed) when she struggled with thr alfa a oil I swapped to Fibre Beet from British horse feeds.
