Hi
Can someone recommed an energy feed for my Section D mare, who will be competing at the Royal Welsh next week.
She's 5 and will be shown in hand on wednesday AM & ridden in two classes on Thursaday.
Will oats do? Or would a competion mix be better?

Any advice will be great thanks.

Hi,

I can't recommend Linseed highly enough for this, its worked wonders on my beast. Simple systems to bags of instant linseed which are great. Obviously its quite a old fashioned thing but I couldn't believe the difference in my mare - enregy without hotting her up. Its also a great natural anti-inflamatory so really good for competion horses.

I use to use competion mix but never really achieved to much and had to feed quite alot - its basically oats aswell.

Good luck - hope you find something for her.

i would be really careful introducing anything so close to a big show like that. I would have always tried it at home for a bit to see how it affects them I know with my sec d the atmosphere lifts him alot more than i magine.

If you think you still need it we use Spillers SLow Release Comp cubes, they seem to wokr without over heating them.

Goog luck for next week, ditto the electrolytes x x

To be honest you should have thought about this feeding issue a few weeks ago. The Royal Welsh Show starts in 2 days & only runs for 3 days so you do not have suffcient time to introduce new feed. You need about a week or so to gradually introduce it. Additionally you will not know if there will be any adverse effects on your horse both physically, it may not agree with her. Also mentaly, it may cause it to fizz & be unmanageable. I think you should stay as you are at the moment, see how she goes & then after the show & well before any other you can try changing feed & seeing it it suits your horse. Good Luck at the show.

If you don't manage to sort her feeding out in time, feed her a few bannanas between classes. Could be wrong but I have found it boosts their energy?... maybe I just have had weird horses

dont chance her food now you will do more harm than good just lactose to her food it is natural highly digestibale sis excellent for getting controlable engery will not hot her up at all! its about 4pounds!

I find that adding a good dollop of linseed oil to feeds helps with energy and doesnt take too long to introduce.

The atmosphere at the Welsh ought to do the trick without any extra adding in feed...its a mental show!

I hope you a) survive and b) have a GREAT time!
