My pony is bouncing off the walls
crazy.gif

Shes not gaining weight but she has lost some since ive had her (a month)
Shes in at night but is still very hypo after 20 mins lunging and wont stand still at all

I know shes only 5 but even if shes just slightly calmer it would be better!!
Shes currently getting a handful of speedibeet, handful of nuts and handful off cherry chaff.
And shes 12hh and lunged for 20 mins each day and out in a bare paddock everyday 9-4 and has had slight lami in the past.
Thanks in advance!
Ohh and thoughts on mollichaff calmer ta

Does she need to be fed at all? Perhaps just hay and cut out the hard feed. Then if she's calmer on that, and you feel you need to give her hard feed, I would cut out the nuts and mollichaff and give her a different low or unmolassed chaff. There may be some kind of sugar intolerance going on too.

Just feed meadow hay, soaked to remove the sugars if necessary, and then if you wanted to add a few vits and minerals give them in a handful of low sugar chaff. If you wanted to feed a bit of sugar beet pulp make sure it is the unmolassed.

Has she been like this all the time you've had her? Or has she become increasingly worse over the past month?

If her weight is ok then i would just feed a couple of handfuls of a low energy chaff such as hifi light or safe and sound with a vit/min supplement.

Mollichaff has lots of sugar in it and some basic pony nuts can have reasonable starch levels, so not ideal for an ex laminitic.

If the paddock is totally bare then you should put some hay in the field so the gut isnt left without food for such a long period. It can be soaked if you need to reduce calories.

Give her Happy Hoof instead I think cherry chaff is quite high in molasses. If she has had lami in the past Happy Hoof would be better as it is a balance chaff so she will get all the vits and mins she needs to. Other than that give her hay - preferably soaked for a minimum of 30 mins. She needs fibre to keep her warm - will help stop her dropping weight.

I would also if possible let her be out for longer, that's only 7 hours turnout and the rest stood in a box.

Also as the above poster said, cut out everything and consider something like pink powder (it's a balancer (so has all vits/mins), but also good for the digestive system, give them a call at naff)

Lastly oil is a good as it is slow release energy so wont add spark but will help with keeping weight or weight gain.. (these are just my thoughts, I am not an expert)

But i think its just her settling in. She was given free to good home as a companion so i cant really moan

The sugabeet is unmollassed.
& when i say dropping weight shes bordering on underweight now shes probly just about right but i dont want her droping anymore.
She can only be out that long because work hours are difficult and they have to be fitted in around them.

Take out the speddibeet i have had a number of ponies who with even a handful would climb the walls even though its unmollased it still seems to set them off. maybe get a balancer ??

I'd cut out the beet (even unmollassed) and try feeding her hay during the day. It may help. One of my mares was dreadful at this time of year when she became hungry. It manifested itself with her becoming almost hysterical to handle. Once she'd eaten she'd become much better. And in summer, when she had ample grazing during the day she was better too. Just something to try.
