As above really!

I have a lamintic veteran Shetland mare who is looking like she's dropped quite a bit of weight at the mo. She is just recovering from a nasty bout of mastitis but has been on a bigger bucket feed for a while and I haven't seen any difference.

She is on restricted grazing (because of lami) and currently fed 1 round scoop of Pure Easy and 2 Dengie mugs of soaked Fast Fibre.

I have just ordered Brewer's Yeast and Linseed for our others so could add these in but is there something else I should try? I am worried for the winter months :(

You could try swapping the fast fibre for alfa beet which is higher in calories but still low sugar and starch (laminitis trust approved). I have used it very succssfully to help with weight gain :)

Thanks, certainly an idea to try :)

Any others?

For what its worth I am pretty sure she has Cushings too but haven't had her tested.

What are her teeth like, could she be losing weight because she is struggling to chew?
Can she have hay, and maybe give her smaller feeds but more often!

Allen and paige veteran vitality I swear by it. If she has cushings get her tested for it, the meds can work wonders. If she can't eat much hay anymore try her on hi fi lite by the bucket load when she is in a stable, she needs fibre constantly. Add some fenugreek to her feed alongside garlic, works wonders.

I think her teeth her fine (certainly haven't noticed anything!) but we are getting the whole herd checked in a couple of weeks so that is covered. :)

I will start off adding linseed and offering her smaller feeds more often and see how she goes. And get her wormed and teeth done in the mean time.

Not really in a position to offer her hay as she hates being in (hence lives out 24/7!) and is in with others who don't need the extra food!

Thanks again for the replies! Got a lot of options available to try now.
