I'm moving yards with my 5 yo after he has surgical hock fusion and so will need to get feed in rather than use the yard feeds. New yard has very limited storage space so ideally would like to avoid chaff, but diet needs to be good-doer and ulcer friendly and ideally not too expensive because the vet bills are spenny enough ? He'll also be on antibiotics for a while so would like some pre and probiotics. Something non-heating and/or calming might be useful too. He's really not a fussy eater so palatability isn't an issue and he's happy eating powders on minimal feed so powder supplements are also an option.

I'm leaning towards pink mash and a balancer of some description. Any suggestions for cost effective balancers, or a suitable all-in-one feed?

Thank you!

I was about to suggest pink mash. Commercial balancer wise Spillers lite is the best spec. I use powdered balancers that I mix myself, but you can get them from Progressive Earth. They cost slightly more than spillers, but less calories!

Pure Feeds do a great all-in-one feed for good doers called Fibre Balance, and I feed it to my ulcer-prone mare. It's low cal/sugar, fully balanced, has added pro/prebiotics, no Alfa, no molasses. Definitely worth a try.

I've just had an independent nutritionist out to mine for advice. He's a very good doer and has had ulcers and laminitis. She's recommended Spiller's Happy Hoof Molasses Free and Pink Mash to be fed with salt and a vitamin and mineral supplement.

Thank you to everyone that replied to that! Basically, I thought he was having back pain and got a massage therapist out and she said it was poor saddle fit. However, I asked for more advice from you guys and many recommended getting the vet out.
And I am glad I did! He got scoped yesterday and the vet found the entire upper region in his stomach was in bad shape so he will be on Gastrogard for 4 weeks (cha-ching).
