Hi Sorry but of a long winded one but basically I have a 17 year old cob mare. Weight is fine. Out during the day on relatively good grazing and in at night with a Haynet. Ridden 3/4 times a week lightly. Does some showing.
She has had liver problems so needs a low protein diet. She is very reluctant to eat chaff based feed eg healthy hooves. She has turmeric, boswellia and milk thistle added to feed and that's what puts her off as she won't eat chaff and supplements. She will however eat healthy hooves if mixed in with fast fibre. She doesn't need anymore energy or to put on any weight. At the moment she is having 1 small scoop of fast fibre twice a day with her supplements mixed in. The bowl is always licked clean. I just wanted some advice as to just keep her as she is or to add healthy hooves back in as it's more of a complete balanced diet and I could increase ratio so it's more healthy hooves and less fast fibre? Many thanks

I think to give her a fully balanced amount of vits and mins the quantity of HH would be considerable, Fast Fibre is fully balanced if fed at the correct quantity but the easiest way may be to add a supplement to FF as she is happy with that, there is no reason to feed a chop if she does not like it.

I agree with BP, if she likes it, stick with FF, and get an all purpose supplement. I like equimins tip top, or if you are looking for a hoof supplement a woman on my livery yard has a cob and has been using Feet First (I think it's called) in a red and white tub made in Ireland. She has seen a huge improvement in hoof quality and they are looking better than they ever have even after this awful winter.
