Hi just a quick swoop of opinions please! Would be really helpful :)

Currently Buddy is now having

Baileys lo-cal balancer
Fast fibre
Hi-fi molasses free
handful of pasture mix

Turned out 24/7 on bare field, he a is a good doer who is just about the right weight.

Routine soon to be overhauled in a few ways.

- he is to be clipped and will be brought in overnight
- will move off the grass and into the winter turnout
- this means he will have access to no green stuff and his diet will be primarily hay in the field (ad lib) and a big net of haylage over night + 2 x hard feeds.

Is there anything you would add, take away?

He is in light/med work and rising 5 and shod.

veg soup and cookies for the help!! Thanks so much!

It looks as though you are doubling up on a few things. I'd either feed the lo cal balancer with the hifi or just the fast fibre, as the fast fibre is a balanced feed in itself. You could aways add carotts to make it more interesting instead of the pasture mix? It's up to you though obv. :). Apart from that I am sure as long as he has all that hay and haylage he wont lose weight :).

Why is he getting 2 feeds if he's overweight and you're wanting him to drop over winter?

Baileys ''lo'' cal Balancer
Grass Meal, Distillers Grains, Wheatfeed, Micronised Soya, Dicalcium
Phosphate, Molasses, Calcium Carbonate, Vitamins and Minerals, Yea-Sacc®1026 Yeast Culture

I wouldnt be feeding that or the pasture mix. Both molassed and the above contains grains.

Just a cup of fast fibre if you're wanting to hide a supplement, but then make it a decent supplement if you're going to bother!

I'm just finishing up the ff so wondering whether to get a new bag, he only gets a handful so not enough for it to be the complete feed.... Thank you :)

Sorry didn't really explain, he is on a yard so all the horses have a 'breakfast' before turnout, some this may just a token amount to stop them fussing on or it may be a proper feed for those who need it.

What would you advocate as a 'decent' supplement?

Baileys seemed to be everything on the bag I didn't realise it was mollased!! Lots of people give it the thumbs up... Just started it so will see how it goes.

Thanks TT

I agree with TT - I understand about having a feed am & pm but why not just chaff with some carrots?

My IDxTB is a good do-er, and has just been on chaff (with supplements - pink powder/cortaflex) for a while - we do appear to have an obsession about making sure they get hard feed, when in reality they mostly just need forage.

FWIW I think Pink Powder is one of the best balancers you can get - and about 1/10 of the price of all the others - because it's a powder and not a sexy hard feed ;)

carrots are quite high in sugar!

why not look on pure feed website and ask for their advice.

i feed the pure feed fibre balance and it is super! Has everything needed in just one bag, nothing extra needed to be given!
