I have a 16.1 tb and a 15.2 conniextb both living out 24/7 on a farm with ad lib hay. Grass isn't amazing but better than when they on a dairy farm covered in manure, slurry and everything else every month!
Mytb Is skinny coming out of winter and is struggling a bit without his dairy grass. He has had nearly a year off work due to one reason or another so has zero top line or muscle, not worried about this as will be back in work soon.
He is currently fed calm and condition linseed and Alfa oil.
Mare on the other hand is still fat! She gets hifi lite and a token amount of calm and condition

I am liking the idea of a balancer as the calm and condition at correct quantities is a large amount and doesn't seem to be doing anything. Are there any balances, at a reasonable price people would recommend.
I have been looking at baileys lo cal, baileys stud balancer and equilibra 500?! I need something that will suit them both ideally as running out of storage space fast and OH wont give up his only shed when I have two :D
Sweeties if this far

I've got two very similar!
I've just swapped the skinny one from Calm & Condition to Healthy Tummy and the difference is noticiable already (two weeks). He has put on condition where as even at quite high amounts of C&C he didn't.
He also has adlib full fat haylage when he's in over night.
Fatty has poor quality hay & a lick, thats all he needs! He looks shiny & well so no point putting feed he doesn't need into him.

I tried healthy tummy but for the amount needed he wouldn't eat it :-( lost weight. Mare cribs but has for years going by her teeth, b
Acquired her as a companion, and she was worse with HT!
It's hard when something changes and you have to start again

Goodness, I wouldn`t be giving Healthy Tummy to a fatty, it is a really high calorie feed! Good job she didn`t get on with it :D

Is it Charnwood Linseed that you are feeding?

My T.B did really well on Copra/Alfa Oil mix? I also used grass nuts which I also found great for putting on condition. Its hard to fibre feed for weight gain on a poor doer sometimes but so much better.

I wouldn`t be feeding the good doer anything other than hay & access to a good lick. Then that would free up a bin for a balancer suitable for adding condition. Baileys Stud Balancer is excellent value for money & again I used that to balance my T.Bs fibre ration.

I`ve also used Pink Powder which is an even cheaper option & also a good ailround balancer.

Yep it's Charnwood. I have to give her a handful of something otherwise there is merry hell. Se is a handful, hi if lite, to keep her happy and nothing else and will be restricted in the summer.
He won't touch copra no matter how I try and feed it. Fussy beggar, even with licks, which is why I want to try a balancer. The stud one seems to be the best value but was worried about the high protein content compared to the others

How much linseed are you giving him? My older mare is an absolute nightmare to keep weight on but for the first time this winter I have given her micronised linseed and the difference is amazing. I give her 3 tea cups full a day though so you do need to give quite alot but what a difference it has made. Thats what I would try dont add any new ingredients or stop any you are already on just up the linseed :)

He has 750gm or probably over as he gets 3large mugs overflowing a day. I think he is lacking in bits and mins as not feeding the rec amount of c&c, it's too much and he won't eat it. Coming off that totally now done nothing for him this winter :(

If it was me I would give the fatty Spillers Lite balancer. 100g per 100 kg bodyweight.
The skinny give Spillers Original, alfalfa pellets soaked and top up with Dodson & Horrell Build & Glow if needing condition. The feeds are very small and appetising. Works great for me. I also use Kwikbeet but you might not need it.

It's funny that your horses won't eat the recommended amount of c&c, my 20 yr old brood mare was on 4 scoops of d&h top line cubes mixed with Alfa a n she stopped eating, after a phone call to a&p, she went into 1/2 scoop c&c n 1/2 scoop veterian vitality (ok 3 times a day) so 1 1/2 scoops of each a day n she wolfs it down! The improvement has been so dramatic that after one month were having to cut her feeds!!!! I also recommend fast fibre and ride n relax! I'm a fan of a&p x

Mine absolutely loved the C&C it just did nothing for him :(

Also not keen on the fact they put garlic in their feed as I don`t think its good for them to have on a long term basis.

Mind you, the Healthy Tummy just lists 'herbs' not a breakdown of exactly which so for all I know it could be in there (tho I can`t smell it & surely it would go against the whole 'healthy gut' idea?)
