Hi everyone. Considering changing to straights for both my tb and id. The id's a good doer and tb does hold his weight well. Like the idea of simple systems but could probably work out expensive.
In the winter I norm feed (twice daily):
TB- half scoop c+c
scoop mollichaff calmer
cider vinegar for joints
Around Feb I substitute the c+c for hi fibre nuts and corn oil.

ID- handful mollichaff calmer,
handful hi fibre nuts
cider vinegar

In the summer they get happy hoof, cider vinegar and pink powder at beginning of spring and then replaced by multi vit and min supp.

The tb gets ad lib hi fibre haylage and id has a large net. (can't get hold of hay!!)

They both do well on this and in one way I think "if it aint broke, don't fix it!", but they are both very fizzy! Not really knowledgable about straights etc as it's so easy to get the mixes where it's all done for you!!!

Any suggestions?

I have, for a number of years been feeding Equilibra, Tiger Oats and a grass chaff. I have TBs and Hunters as well as growing youngsters and all get the same (different quantities)
I couldn't be more pleased, they look so well, are sane and sensible and although they have access too mineral licks they rarely ever bother with them.
You can feed just the Equilibra oats are only there for extra energy for the horses that are in full work.

The only supplement I feed is a NAF one for a couple that have arthritis.

Equilibra is not cheap but they need so little that it lasts a lot longer and it now comes in bigger bags for the same price as the smaller ones were.

Thankyou, I will look into the Equilibra. They ef don't need oats as they've got enough energy and are only in light work. They get 8 hours turnout a day in winter on average.
