I'm getting a bit bewildered after having tried to do some research. Have come away more confused than I started!

I'm looking for a winter feed for my welsh D 5 Yr old. She is in light work - schools twice a week for 30/40 mins, hacks 3 times a week for an hr or so and then lunged once a week.

She is about right weight wise. I certainly don't want her to put on any more, but I also don't want her dropping too much over winter.

She is blanket clipped at current and has a 100g turnout during eve (she's not a warm pony and still cool to the touch in this).

Out 24/7 but grazing is crap now and becomes pretty non-existent in winter, so I feed a lot of hay (never weighed, as generally allow ad lib).

Any ideas what I can feed to make sure she has the necessary vits and mins, as well as the energy to maintain current workload. I'm thinking a chaff and a balancer? Or maybe something like speedi beet?

Cookies for anyone who has gotten this far. I pay far more attention to the pony and her diet than my own!

My youngsters have balancer and pink mash. I add a bit of plain grass chaff sometimes. The fat one has a tiny bit of straw chaff with powdered vits the two old ones have pink mash and chaff with turmeraid. I will add micronised linseed if anything loses weight they get no hay as we have foggage

Supercob gets Topchop- the alfa one cos hes a prince and wont eat zero ? and baileys 14 the lo cal balancer. When they're in more we will add a bit of speedibeet to it but for now we just wet the chop

If you buy good hay/lage and can feed it without soaking your mare should not need any extra feed or balancer.

I’d give her something like dengie hi fi molasses free plus equimins advance complete powder to make sure she has the full spec of vits and mins. If she drops off a bit over winter I’d then add a grass chaff.
