I need to go buy something to feed my ponies!
They usually get Honey chop lite and healthy, mainly to add supplements to and keep them coming in happily!
However, none of the shops near me stock it apparently (even though I’ve been buying it for ages ?‍♀️) They can order but being bank holiday won’t get it in til the end of the week.
So I need something....
Suitable for laminitic, no molasses or “light sugar coatings” no alfalfa no soya and that doesn’t taste like card.
Any ideas?!

Oooh Tricky one there! Dare I say it but if they stock Thunderbrooks that may be you're only answer. Top chop zero fits the bill too but tastes like dry Weetabix. Not much else out there I'm afraid!

They don’t like Thunderbrooks ?

I’m wondering if the Top Spec (which they normally turn their snooty little noses up at!) might work with stuff added. I’ve been giving cinnamon powder so perhaps that and as suggested something herby might swing it!
I’m seriously considering going back to my not having a clue feeding days, it was so so much easier!

Any grass chaff? Should be fine in small amounts I'd have thought?

ETA: just realised they won't eat Thunderbrooks so probably no good. Topchop Zero is probably the only one without being able to use just grass chaffs or alfalfa ?

I always think that Readigrass smells absolutely amazing (so sweet), so I wonder if that might work? Otherwise, I think Thunderbrooks do something called Herbalite. Which is a hay based chaff with herbs in. Not sure whether your feed store will have it though and it's not particularly cheap.

If they stock simple systems try one of their chaffs, most of them are alfalfa but they have one which is Timothy grass which is suitable for laminitics.

Hi-fi molasses free does have a small amount of alfalfa in it, so if they are allergic/intolerant that won’t work. But if they can have very small amounts, it’s a good feed and very low in starch/sugar plus tasty according to my welsh diva!

Good old traditional bran. Every feed room should have a bag of bran, so versatile, especially if made up with warm water and a few chopped up fresh mint leaves. Smells lovely and most horses will wolf it down.
