Hello everyone

Just had the vet out to look at teeth and do a general MOT.

You were all absolutely right - vet was happy with her weight, I am being over cautious. And right on the second count too, teeth needed doing!

She was absolutely great for the exam and then we gave a her a bit of sedation for the rasping, just to make the whole thing really positive.

Rest of the MOT went well too, she’s well-coordinated, sound, stifles look and feel normal, flexion fine, heart good and eyes clear. She’s a bit underdeveloped and weak but that’s down to me not doing enough with her this winter, and easily resolved.

It sounds like you're ok for now but just wanted to say my share horse is very responsive to grass - he's 24 now and has been the same since his owner got him at 5. He's also not bothered by haylage. We have ad lib on our yard and he frequently only eats 1/3 of what he has - and what my very similarly built boy eats.

They move to the winter field in November and there's usually enough grass to see them through to mid/end Jan. Every year he starts losing weight and by mid March he looks terrible (in our eyes - far from a rescue case!) As soon as that first flush of grass is out he starts putting weight back on and by the end of April he's back to normal. He maintains a good weight over the summer and then puts on a bit with the autumn flush which sees him through until the following Feb / March. Overall he's fine for most of the year - just a big fat in Oct/ Nov and a bit thin in March. It's just the way he is and we don't worry about it.

My horse on the other hand never changes - one girth hole difference at most between summer and winter. I would worry if he lost a lot of weight.
