any ideas where to buy cheap METAL feed storage containers??? I usually have about 6 bags feed in summer so need either something large or cheaper small bins. ive looked for old chest freezer, there are none about near me at the moment.

Ive had enough of the plastic ones. Rats have chewed through into my feed AND rug ones :( :( weve never had problem like this before. Poison doesnt seem to be working :(

Try your local rubbish tip for chest freezers. Thats where all the old ones get taken. If you ask them nicely they will usually let you take one away.

I have a large 3 container metal bin I'm trying to get rid of. I just don't have enough room in my shed! If you're anywhere near me you can have it. Each section can hold about two bags of nuts or almost one bag of chaff. pm me if you're interested....

Order feed from Chestnut Horse Feeds and it comes deliveredin a rodent proof bin! They then collect the empty ones and bring new full ones when you're ready. I've managed to get rid of all my old dustbins and now the rats have moved out due to lack of food :)

Could you not just buy an old fridge freezer and lie it on its back, putting different feed in each compartment?

Have you got hens? Thats the only time we ever got rats. Bit worrying really as we have just put our name down for some ex bats. Perhaps have to get/borrow a terrier...?

Thanks everyone for the advice :)

Have an old really big chest freezer that I got from my Aunty years ago it will hold a bag of Alfa A a bag of ready grass and 3 bags of feed!!! I also have an Icecream freezer that I got given that has the sliding top which holds 2 bags as well.

Make sure you get a good one if you go that route, I had a cheapy that was just aluminium, first they chewed a small hole to get at the bag of feed, I countered by fitting a thick plastic square in the bottom, all went quite for a while until my feed bags sank, the little sweethearts had been hard at work chewing round the whole of the bottom until it fell out, 2:1 to them!!!!

Apparently you need the new generation poisons that have a delayed onset, one of them tries the food and reports back not to eat it to the others if they feel unwell!! To bloomin clever.
