Has anyone had any experience of feeding itchy horses with one of the various anti-itch products around? My pony doesn't get sweet itch but she is an itchy girl and often comes up in lumps in the Spring and Summer. I am thinking about trying something but I thought I'd ask for reccommendations before buying. Thanks to anyone who can give an opinion :)

Welll, you can waste a lot of money on various "must have" supplements. I've tried Laminaze for my cob with sweet itch - difficult to say whether it really helped but a friend with a pony with sweet itch said it had helped.

Also last year I emptied my bank account and tried the "Think Fly" stuff - total waste of money I'm afraid.

At the moment I'm feeding linseed as that's supposed to be good for skin and coats.

There's a new product from the sweet itch place called E-Os or similar; not cheap but I'm trying it for mine this year, so we shall see.

If you've established your horse has definately got sweet-itch, and to what degree, there are de-sensitising injections available; however my vet is a tad cynical about them, so shan't be going there!

The best thing you can do really - if its just flies you're worried about - is to get a good fly-rug and bung it on. I have to get the ones with hoodys on which cover the poll area for mine, you can also go for a Boett (not cheap!) or Pagony (cheaper but rubbish quality - mine was anyway).
