My name is Nicola Stothard I am a third year student at Writtle College studying BSc (Hons) Equine Studies and Business Management.

For my Dissertation I aim to ascertain how horse owners choose the type and amount of feed to give to their horses.

Please follow the link below to take part in the survey by either clicking on it or copying and pasting it into your web browser.

Please be aware that you must be a horse owner and responsible for your horses feed to complete this survey. All feed answers must be related to what you are currently feeding (winter feed).

All participants will remain anonymous.

Please answer as best you can and leave any comments in the comment box at the end.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and take part in the pilot survey.

If you have any queries or would like a summary of the results please feel free to contact me: 98282329@writtle.ac.uk

Done, but think you should have a rethink, the survey is not particularly well written and I'm not sure what statistically valid data you could extract from it. You haven't taken into account retired horses in the workload section or otherwise off work, you don't take into account the type of horse being fed, your multiple choice answers to some of the questions don't have a "correct" option among them. If you want to do well in your degree (and I hope you do), I think you need to be more rigorous in your research and perhaps seek some help at college.

Is this honestly the standard of work you are expected to produce to pass a BSc (Hons) ?
This is how these horsey degrees get such a bad reputation.

Done. Agree about the survey not taking into account the type of horse being fed as its different with every horse so found the survey difficult to answer in that respect. I just went with what I do with my mare.

Afraid I abandoned it after a couple of screens. Your options aren't complete enough. You ask whether the horse is a) stabled 24/7, b) at grass 24/7, c) stabled with access to grazing. My horse no 1 is stabled during the day, out at night. Horse no 2 is the opposite. What does "access to grazing" mean? I took it to mean some sort of field shelter so the horse can come and go as he pleases, ie access to grazing. But do you mean stabled for some part of the day or night and turned out the rest of the time by the owner? Very confusing. Sorry.

My horse is a baby. What was I supposed to put for how many times per week she is exercised? I had to select x1 because there was no option for a horse out of work/retired. Then in Q7 you ARE given the option of selecting that your horse is out of work. Feed questions were confusing too. Asked whether I mix feeds (use difference manufacturers products) I chose yes, but I use one brand of high fibre cubes, another manufacturers chop and another's feed balancer..... but I don't use different course mixes or cubes... so did I answer correctly or not????!
