Feed Testers (again)

Right, since I believe I was the one who kicked off this discussion the other day I'd like to add my comments:

Firstly, my comments about the quantity of feed remain. The big girl won't eat all of it and it is taking the youngster hours to finish it. I appreciate that it is a complete feed and yes, the ingredients are of a decent quality.

Secondly, I don't think any of us were moaning about being given free feed - most of us were bemused by the quantity - nothing else.

Thirdly, your comment about our horses being skinny is way off the mark - long may your own perfection continue.

Finally, I'm glad your own feeding regime works out for you. I have two on the trial a warmblood mare who has come back from months of box rest following injury and a youngster who is still growing. Winergy have a DUTY OF CARE to ensure that as wide a population of horses are trialled on the feed whether it makes them fat or not. Conditioning feeds are part and parcel of the feed market now.

have now started feeding it. As i feed high fibre its no more than i normally feed so i think i am lucky on that score. I took a photo of the Thoroughbred. i may put her pic up if no-one goes over the top. She is a rescue

She had a couple of tastes and thought about it then delicately put it down.
I got the other one out to feed and he tucked in happily. He is a bad choker but has never eaten so well, not a single hint of may choke. Went to check on first horse and if the fairies have not whisked it away she had licked her bucket clean

I have started them off on 1kg as it is a change in food did not wish to change too quickly

I am delighted with it although i was worried Charity would not eat it at first.
My local feed merchant doesn't sell Winergy so never looked into it. I picked it up from one i did not know existed

I am interested in the price though. I will have to add up total cost of what i normally feed against this and other Winergy feeds.
As someone else said it will not suit all horses and not everyone will rave about it. Trials are for 'honest' opinions, good and bad or they are not worth doing. The company can then look at the feedback and develop things from their. Its just fortunate for me i am happy so far. Out of 20 horses with us two were suitable candidates in my thoughts and i was lucky to get them on it

I feel very lucky, and even more lucky it is what i have been looking for

I will be takeing pics to record any differences

We weren't slating, we were discussing whether it would be realistic/economical to keep our horses on it long term.

I have to say I'm impressed so far - my mare absolutely loves it, i can even mix her joint supplement in and she still finishes it when normally she can sniff it out a mile off and won't touch a mouthful.

However I have to feed 3kgs a day. The stuff comes in 15kg sacks which means I'm going to be using a sack every 5 days. Now if its about £15 a sack then its going to cost me £3 a day to feed my horse. Before she was on 2kgs baileys topline cubes - a bag costs £10, lasts 10 days, therefore £1 a day.

So feeding winergy long term would add over £700 a year to my feed bill! Therefore although I like the feedd its gonna take some pretty impressive results to keep me buying it.

I try not to add up my feed bill

But an extra £700 per year

I feed 3kg and 2.5 kg. What a shame it is so expensive. I will have to bite the bullet and add up my feed bill

I do tend to go with what suits them
