OH has got some food in bulk, it is a good quality H&P nut which will be fine for all ours BUT it isn't gauranteed free from banned substances! Now that doesn't mean it has got them just isn't guaranteed that it hasn't!!

Does anyone know how long it would take to get out of the horses system for affiliated competition? I know I am unlikely to be tested at the level I compete BUT I don't want to risk it when I start eventing again next year!

I am thinking of using it for my boys too as it is so much cheaper than the bagged stuff. It was £200 per tonne which equates to £4 oer bag as opposed to the £6-7 I'm paying at the moment!!

I think this is a 'how long is a piece of strong' question as different substances take differing amounts of time to get out of the horse's system. And for the record I know of someone tested (and caught out) at Intro this year.

Its not like that... we know what is in it. I am really not that irresponsible!! OH knows what it is that isn't guaranteed I don't know enough about it to even start backing it up but its definitely NOT a dodgy brand or anything!

I think its just that as is isn't a designated horse feed mill the feed may contain traces of things from the livestock feed which will have no effect on the horses but may show up on a blood test!! So thefore they are covering their back and NOT guaranteeing it!!

Hi there,

i think that i can help. The reason some feeds are not guaranteed free from or abiding by jockey club rules is because it is probably manufactured in a multi-species mill Now this mill probably will on occasion manufacture medicated feeds for farm animals. The fact that drugs go near the mill at any point means the feeds cannot be stated as jockey club approved.

Rest assured however that the mill that is manufacturing the horse feed will have stringent controls in place to ensure that there is no carry over of medication or risk of contamination of any kind. There will be copiuos amounts of flushing of the mill prior to the horse feed being manufactured.

Feed mills that carry a UFAS standard should be as good a gurantee of feed quality as you will get, and because you are buying form a primary manufacturer you are able to get it without the third party margin added in -- Bonus!!

Hi i'm foxfolly's other half, the main reason that the food is not aproved is that it contains biscit meal which can contain such things as caffine which i belive is banned.
