I have fed D&H pasture mix for at least the past 10 years to every horse I have had or looked after in that time - from retired old things to Bruce now.

For example I used to feed it with chaff for my youngster, and for my old jumping pony and Bruce I feed it with oats - Bruce gets pasture mix, oats, alfa a with oil and sugar beet thru the winter.

It is the best mix I have ever used!

Do any of you have a staple feed...and why?

I forget who its by but its called power mix and yep i love it, it really does blow their brains and sent them nuts and when you have a boring pony like mine thats what ya want!

A&P fibre nuts are what I use as a base ration for both of mine, and will do as long as I have them. Just a small amount soaked makes quite alot of feed(by volume) so SWO think she's getting a big meal(she has Safe & Sound too now though), and I can add what I need to for Lukey(alfa oil and balancer for him), plus being a fibre feed I can soak as much as I like and give them as a hay replacer if necessary without having to worry too much about excess calories

I don't have one particular feed but I do like to feed straights - I can control the amount of each ingredient he receives in line with his workload, state of his poos etc rather than just having to feed less or more of everything

HiFi.

Bailey's LoCal balancer - brilliant for a good doer competition horse, topdressed with oats if necessary.

I'm a recent Speedibeet convert and now I LOVE it. Never will be caught short for sugarbeet again.

ATM D&H Sure Grow and Alfa-A Oil. I also feed an economy mix, just for calories through the winter really. Absolutely swear by carrots - when I hay them (they live out) I scatter them on the hay for them to find. The grazing is not the greatest, so the succulent value is important I feel!

I think it would have to be Baileys Endurance Mix because it has really changed how Grace eats (she doesn't leave any whereas before she just wouldn't eat much of her feed) and she looks great too

I must be in the minority here, as I really don't like D&H feeds...

LOL - I'm not overly fond of Baileys feeds

We have fed all ours on PAVO for last few years. use all the range depending on how old and how much work etc, Mixed with copra meal. They all have a lovely coat considering I don't time do much grooming!

i used to live in northants near their main place, everyone used them. then i had a horse go anaemic, and another one, and people i taught had anaemic horses (all blood tested), and i started putting two and two together... of course, maybe it was just my horses and my clients, but i've never had an anaemic horse since feeding other makes...

Another simple systems fan here, it suits all 4 of mine, and my lad and oh's mare have lost all their nervous 'hyper' type energy, still loads of go in them and plenty of stamina without being as idiotic as they used to be on pasture mix! When I went on holiday and they all went into livery they were given pasture mix - got back on after 2 weeks away and it was like sitting on an unexploded bomb! Won't be changing back again!

I have used D & H competition mix with molly chop since i have had Jed and i wouldnt use anoth food as he gets all he needs from this and that little bit extra for lazy days!!!

Vote for Bailey's Stud balancer here again - my youngsters, broodmares and fatties are on it and they all look fab!
generally though I will feed whatever feed is most suited ot the horse. Like the look of the Equilibrium feeds - a few friends have theirs on it and the horses have never looked better (one especially has been really hard to keep weight on and is looking great on the Low).
Wouldn't personally use Saracen if someone paid me too. Have used it in the past as well as working on a large yard that all used it and genuinely never saw much of a difference in the horses when they were on it. IMO it's very overpriced for what it is and def think there is much better stuff out there already.
