Hi all - I currently have an older Shogun for towing which I absolutely love however, I need to look at changing due to the increased running costs (tax) and the possible implementation of the ULEZ which will affect my area and subsequently my older Shogun. I use my car for day to day driving too, so looking at something a little more cost effective, but will still be able to tow. Cost is a factor and given that I am going to have to look at something 2017 or newer to comply with the Euro 6/ULEZ restrictions, the Shogun Sport is just out of my price range. I am not interested in Landrovers due to reliability (I've had one and had nothing but issues)... but have been looking at the Ssanyong Rexton and the Kia Sorrento. I know the Ssanyoong has 3.5tonne towing capacity but the Kia is 2.5tonne - how do you find this tows? I have a Wessex Olympian trailer which is approx 1 tonne and just the one horse who will be approx 750kilos when fully grown BUT on occassion I do like to have the option to tow 2 horses - thoughts? And any recommedations on other vehicles to consider that wouldn't be beyond a £20k budget. (not trucks) - I knpow this gets posted from time to time, but I am looking for feedback on these specific vehicles, and suggestions on others. I know that the Aud Q8, BMW X5, VW Touareg will tow, but out of my price range. TIA.

I found my kia Sorrento was ok to tow two big horses in an ifor Williams. I found the clutch wasn't great on it and seemed to wear out easily. I also thought the 4x4 capabilities were very poor. I spent my life being towed out of hunter trials when ground was muddy. engine went on t twice but I think I was just unlucky with the one I had, as friends have them and haven't had that issue. The feeling I got from garages about them was that they were fine, but to trade them in before they get 7 years old or older.

I wouldn't buy one again personally because I had a bad experience with mine. I have switched to ford rangers and izusus and much prefer them. and budget wise they were cheap.

I don't tow, but have had a rexton for three years, got a good deal on one that was registered by the dealer but not sold for nearly 12 months. It uses half the diesel that the previous disco used and so far has been very reliable. It's not the easiest to park, just because of the size, but it's lovely to drive, good 4x4 capability and brilliant ground clearance.

We have an older Rexton and it tows 3.5t better than anything else we have had, and in comfort too. The downside is that some parts can take a couple of weeks to arrive, if not available in the UK. But that's only with the older models I think.

I tow with a Sorento 7 seater and love it. I tow a Bateson Ascot with 16.2hh and never tow two so cant say how good it would be. But with my setup it tows well. I cant say how good it is getting in and out of a muddy field as to be honest I havent had it in one. It's a really comfy car and feels like a car rather than a huge 4x4 even though the boot is massive if the back 2 seats are flat. I have 3 kids hence the seats and I use it for general daily driving around, its not too pricey on fuel etc. I got mine second hand. I love it, it replaced my last Kia Sportage that I found a bit too gutless for towing.
