Ok so with so much nutrition advice avaible what do you all feed your 3 year olds? Mine will be coming off the suregrow this month and i am wondering what to do next? so what do you all do?

Mine lives out, he has unmolassed chaff and equivite (and cortaflex as he has had a hock op).

Why change? Keep him on the Suregrow - it's a good way to keep up his minerals. That's all mine get regardless of age, topped up with mag ox and a red Rockies block.

I thought Suregrow was only suitable for 3years and under? not being balenced for over 3year olds is that not the case?? If not i might keep him on it.

Everyone else thanks that was sort of the lines i was thinking.

Grass & hay, and add Equimins mineral balancer with a handful of readigrass + micronised linseed. And access to a salt lick. You can compete on this diet, but add oats if you feel the horse requires more energy.

If you compare Suregrow with other balancers there's very little difference (except the price) and I am fairly sure I'm not the only one on here who uses it for adult horses. Even my 18 yo gets it! Of course it's possible that's not a good thing to be doing but they have shiny coats, feet like iron and seem pretty happy in themselves so I'm planning to continue. I know the amounts change as they get older but there's nothing in it other than standard vits and mins as far as I'm aware.

After two years old a youngsters nutritional needs are the same as an adult horse, fibre (hi fi or fast fibre) and a broad spec supplement is what I'd use :)
