I have just got a 7 month old ESS from welfare. He is under weight so needs feeding up. I an taking him to the vets on Thursday for a Health check etc.

It is a long time since I have had a dog as young as this. My last rescue (6 weeks ago) was 3 years old who was under weight but he is on a dried food and has put a nice bit of weight on.

At the moment the pup is on raw food but I would like to move him over to a dried food, any suggestions.

Assuming he is healthy, add some fat to his feed. Either trimmings from the butcher or a lump of lard from the supermarket. Spaniels tend to be hyperactive and burn a lot of carbs so they need rocket fuel.

Good suggestion , Thanks

I feed my Springer a dry blend from tails.com ... it's made up specifically for the dog based on their breed/age/health needs etc. Her digestion has never been better since she's been on it. Being a Springer, it doesn't touch the sides. It's certainly been a hit with us.

There is a sticky above re dry food, traffic light system, red=avoid, green =good. Pick a food that suits your budget and to put weight on him, just up the amount. Follow the pack instructions and up it if he's still skinny. Simple. Feed little and often. My two were skinny wretches as youngsters and solidified at about two, same as my older springer and they were fed loads!
