Feeding a Mini Shetland

Ok, I am posting for a friend who has a mini shet.

She is currently being fed a handful of happy hoof and some carrots and although she has lost some weight she is still over weight. With spring/summer around the corner, does anyone have any feeding suggestions which may help?

Restricted grazing, ad lib hay, soaked if poosible, and low-cal balancer, nothing else is needed!

Agree with Coolrunnings also add some salt. Definitely drop the carrots!

I've got three and they're fine with that feeding regime. Do soak the hay to loose weight as CR says. Also you can net it to slow down her intake but imo don't restrict it.

How is she kept?

Generally I would say don't feed her anything...just have a mineral lick available and hay if required and as much exercise as possible.
A real easy way to knock a few pounds off is to take her walking as much as possible.
Have her living out if possible and on rough grazing. If no rough grazing then a dirt paddock is better with ad lib soaked hay.

I don't give mine any feed normally but she has dropped alot of weight in this cold snap so have started feeding a few carrots and chaff. Normally find that she balloons on the grass so its a bit of a balancing act.
