Well I have a 17.2 Irish draught. He is not the best of horses to keep weight on at all. Not had him that long really.
He has put a bit of weight on but still nowhere near what he needs to be at.
I know it wont come on overnight but just need some advice on what to feed him would be appreciated.

Baileys no.4 topline conditioning cubes and alfa a oil. My girl held her condition SO well all winter on this, not a rib in sight. She is only 15hh but she got fed 1 scoop baileys, 1 scoop alfa a oil and 1/2 a scoop of sugar beet twice a day. She is now on about 1/3 of a scoop of baileys, 1/2 a scoop mollichaff showshine twice a day.

Baileys is excellent

Ooh might be worth a try. I was wondering if anyone would mention alfa a oil. I just need to get him heavier than he is. As he looks a riding horse type and hes meant to be a show hunter lol. Do you have any before and after pics of using the feed?

we have had the same problem with my pony, we tried top line conditioning cubes and didn't find it helped and we went through alot of it! Now using topspec feed balancer and have noticed the difference already! its quite pricy but you need only a small amount a day.

why dont you try balanced show mix you just feed it on it's own you dont need to add anything else to it as it is a balanced diet, says it in the name. just remember you have a big horse, this means loads of food and add lib hay. works brill on my 16.2 tb stallion and does not send him batty. best bit is they will deliver 10 bags straight to your door and you can buy it online 24/7.

I know hes a big horse, but he certainly does not eat like one. He has loads of ad lib hay but is quite fussy and wont eat it all. Currently on High fibre cubes and spillers conditioning mix. Only just started on this so will see how it goes, but will give something else a try if all else fails.

My fussy, skinny TB can be a real pain to feed but I've recently changed him onto Allen & Paige's Calm & Condition & he loves it & in 8weeks he's allready lookin much better.

I recently swapped my skinny ayrab on to alfa a oil - and the difference in just a few weeks is incredible! I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes!!!

Oh thanks for the suggestions guys, much appreciated

Oh also before anyone mentions, he is up to date with worming teeth etc. Just is a generally rubbish doer.

Lol was just going to ask about had you had a recent worm count done so thanks for preempting that one! If he is fussy, try fenugreek (herbal, its what makes curries 'smell' of curries if that makes sense) - my poor doer rapidly scoffs his food with that in it, and since I removed the garlic.
Make all changes v gradually, and watch that you dont overdo the protein increase. Good luck
