I've got to leave Yellow Dog behind this weekend so as bribery I was going to the butchers to get him and Sandy some bones to share. Are there any types I should avoid? My dad said not to feed lamb bones as they splinter - is this correct?

I leave mine with most types except for the big weightbearing ones so I can see if he is going too hard on them and I will remove them. Never heard that about lamb bones, have fed lamb necks and shoulder shanks before (no supervision) without an issue.
Also chicken carcasses, wings, legs, thighs etc.
Spines, ribs, necks are fine, leg or knuckle bones can break teeth in very determined dogs.
Beef/lamb heart is good to get the teeth working but they can be messy.

Thanks - will see what the butcher has to offer. hope work won't mind me storing them in the fridge for teh rest of the day!! :D

Most bones won't last long (avoid big weight bearing bones that may crack teeth)

I think a filled and frozen kong will last longer.

The big weight bearing bones for teeth cracking reasons..... I got a raw food delivery last night Dex nommed up somethings spine in about 5 mins!!
