Hi I have a very skinny tb gelding (he's been turned out for 10mths buy the racing yard he was in-but has not done well on grass at all) Hes wormed and had his teeth done. I'm currently feeding: 1 large scoop of: Alfa A oil, spillers conditioning mix, unmolassed sugar beet x2 a day plus ad lib hay and hes turned out on plenty of grass for the day. Does this sound sufficent? Thanks!

Think the amount of food is sufficent but maybe substitute some of the sugar beet for a weight gain product such as the baileys no1 or top spec super conditioning flakes . Also swapping hay for haylege may help as well. When my boy came out of racing we also gave him a course or pre/pro biotics to get things working properly again .

My TB wasnt hugely skinny when I got him (he's been out of racing a long while!) but he struggled to put condition on - Baileys No 4 cubes were great for him

Also would echo the haylege instead of hay if you can get it

The cheapest way I have worked out to get weight on is Alfa Oil, unmollassed sugarbeet, and topsepc balancer. If you need a little bit extra, add Topspec cool condition cubes. My mare looks fantastic now on this feed with good grass, and has enough energy to work well!!

Mine has been getting Alfa A oil and baileys lo-cal for the last 4 weeks and is turned out 24/7 on good grazing, this has really turned him around and he is looking fab on it. He only gets 1 level scoop of the AA and a decent mug of the balancer a day.

thanks for the advise guys,

I think I will switch him to haylage and perhaps try pink power- he eats up everything he's givern so hopefully will be seeing some improvment- only had him 3wks..

Agree with all the above as it worked with my old tb.If you want alternative to top spec try c and c(my mare is ott on hard feed apart from calm and condition allen and paige). She put on 40 k this summer ( pics in new lounge ) she was very skinny and had no topline.
