Hi all,

Currently looking for some recommendations on what to feed my cob X appaloosa colt (soon to be gelding). He's currently 10 months and has no previous medical issues that I know of.

His previous owner was pretty much feeding him on air, with "a little hard mix to bulk him up" as he was a rescue when she had him. I currently have him on Dengie chaff at each end of the day (and plenty of hay available throughout the day) as he's stabled until his gelding in a few days; he'll be going out on relatively poor grazing when he does go out.

Thanks!

At the most a balancer or handful of something with a mineral supplement. He shouldn’t need more than that and grass topped up with hay/ haylage when needed

Thanks! I'd assumed, being cobbish, he wouldn't need much, hence why he's only on a bit of chaff, but wasn't sure whether the Appaloosa side of him would need something a little more

Not in my experience! They live on footage only rather too well ime!
We did feed the old, original appy soaked grass nuts when she was late 20s early 30s and her teeth weren't so good! Prior to that forage only! The subsequent two had/ have a forage only diet and the current girl looks rather too good coming out of winter!
