My 21y old warmblood gelding needs to gain condition as he has dropped off this winter but I'm not sure what else to feed him as he had laminitis last year. I was thinking about calm and condition?
My warmblood gelding is 21 and i used to feed calm and condition, and gives too much fizz for my boy. I now give more fibre, ad lib hay and a scoop of hi fi and he is doing well. How about hi fi light for your boy? Has less sugar than hi fi and much less sugar and protein than calm and condition.
I've used calm and condition a few times and it's always worked fine with no fizziness. Do you still ride him? We had sherri, who has lami, on c&c with speedibeet - her lami was related to cushings though so i don't think diet was the main thing with her. We have had B on balieys top line and alfa beet and he has kept condition well this winter.
I cant use calm and condition for my 6 year old tbx, it made her crazy. She needs to gain condition and weight but is very anxious and fizzy .I have found that she is very level headed on top spec cool and condition cubes they are high in protein and fibre ,my other horse a tb is fed them too he is out of work and has kept a good weight all year on this feed.I use alpha a with oil and sugar beet but allan and page do a fibre feed that would be better for laminitics hi fi light would probably be good for his condition as well.I have just added extra oil to her feed during the last few days and feed add lib hay and haylage with supplements.Hope that helps
I started using calm and condition and fast fibre for my tb during last winter and amazingly he put weight on through the winter! He can be very 'fizzy' and the feed did not increase this at all, infact i think it actually helped! I still use it now and swear by it! I am getting a little worried that he actually hasnt lost weight at all so far this winter and will be too fat going into the spring! I would defo recommend!
the best think i think is fibre beet it is a conditioning unmollaseed sugar beet with alpha in it and it is recommend by the lammi trust. and it works real well!
