hi
i have a friesian mare that is in good condition being feed happy hoof cool conditioning cubes think pink supplement and garlic
her coat remains like dandruffy/dusty quite hard to describe really she comes up nice ish when groomed but still has this dandruff like fine particles
should i change the happy hoof to an oil based chaff?

Oil would probably help. How old is she and what sort of work do you do with her? Has she always been like this? Could it be a bit of rainscald maybe?

I would give her a bath in horse shampoo and exclude alfalfa from her diet to see if this helps.

It made a big difference to my lad.

hi the bath works for couple days then she just seems scurfy again she does not get alfalfa she is on happy hoof
she is 4 years old
i dont think i am being fussy just as she is black and it shows up more but not sure as my other horse is grey

Try bathing in head and shoulders -it's verygood for flakey skin and much cheaper than horsey shampoo. And feed oil as the others have said. Any oil will do, my local Tesco sells big 15 litre bottles for about 10quid, it lasts me a whole winter. You need a funnel and a smaller bottle though as the big bottle is impossible to deal with.
