Need some feed advice for my daughters new pony.... He's a 14hh new forest , good doer , not looking for weight gain but concerned if he's getting enough feed. Currently stabled at night with ad lib hay and out during the day.

When we bought him we were told he just being fed a small token feed of handful of happy hoof .

I'm just wondering if this is enough for the work load he does- he's ridden 6 days a week- one of these days is an hours hard lesson, one is usually pony club rally- often jumping.. 3x 45-60 mins schooling sessions and 1 x hack

He copes with the work load no problem and is certainly fit enough... He can lack a little energy sometimes - although he's just a very laid back chap by nature...

I just wondered if I should be introducing a little in the way of hard feed... Pasture mix or the like??

Help please as I've never had to decide what to feed a pony before and there's a mind boggling range of feeds avaliable!

Thanks in advance

i wouldn't change anything either, he sounds like he's doing ok.
If you are really concerned that he needs all his vits and mins topping up then consider a low calorie balancer, or forage plus like tqiggy suggests

If he is a healthy weight, he is getting an adequate diet.

The feed companies would have us believe that our equines need a large amount of rubbish in a bucket, they don't!

Most horses and ponies are absolutely fine on ad-lib hay, without anything else.

He sounds fine as long as he's maintaining the weight and condition like the others said, my cob was pretty much on the same diet and when I thought she needed a little more energy I started giving her a handful of pony nuts as well if that helps?

Agree with above. If he's doing well change. Your far better having a nice laid back chap than a rocket where kids are concerned!
