My 13.2 6yo pony needs a bit more oomph but l don`t want him to go off his head. At the moment he has 2 feeds made up of chaff basic pony nuts and speedi beet. He is in good condition and is worked 6 days a weeks for between 1-3 hours a day. He is out for about 17 hours but grazing is not that great. He also has adlib hay when he is in his stable. I would be grateful for any advice.

Depends so much on the pony's temperament as they are all different. As he is doing quite a decent amount of work, why don't you try a feed one step up from his pony nuts? Go onto the feed manufacturer's website and look for one with a little more protein, energy etc than your pony nuts then very gradually add it into his feed and see if that works.
Or you could feed some haylage as it often has slightly higher feed values than hay.
