Feeding at the gate.

Hello,
Just curious on peoples opinions of feeding horses at the field gate.
At our yard you can now turn out 24 hours if you wish.I don't but have no issues if people do its their horses.
anyway a few people still choose to feed there horses at the field gate not actually in the field on the other side.Now we have two gelding fields with about 12 horses each in them and they are all starting to congregate around the gateways and theres a few fights breaking out and yester day a horse was being brought in to be fed at the gate when another launched at it and a fight broke out.Going to speak to one of the yard managers tomorrow about this as im struggling to get two horses out with the rest of the field wanting to come too and people giving there horses some dinner in full view.Our field is not a million miles away its no joke a 10second walk.I just want to make sure im not just creating drama when its a normal thing im worried incase a horse gets hurt of if someone gets hurt.Am i over - reacting?
 
Personally I wouldn't feed at the gate with a group of horses all wanting to eat it too, sounds like a recipie for a fight IMO :o
 
it created real problems last year when mares starting fighting after the women that provide livery services on the yard started feeding a horse at the gate for a week when the owner was away, the fighting never stopped and one mare is now on individual turn out due to it
 
Really not sensible at all in my experience. This may work for a couple of days, but the horses who aren't getting the feeds will soon wise up to what's happening and try to muscle in on the act. Dangerous for horses and humans alike.
 
I used to take my boy out of the field and feed him at the gate but he was only in a field with one other horse who really didn't bother his backside when I did it - I wouldnt do it now as I have a youngster and they are out with 2 other horse who would not be happy if my two were eating and they were not. In a field of 12?? Just asking for trouble really
