Now, I've never fed bread to Castle or Ali as I always thought it wasn't good for them at all, but I know several people who feed slices of white bread as treats... So, is it really that bad?
iv given mine a little nibble of a sandwich before but i know a lot of people who feed it daily because it fattens them up but its wheat and its really bad for them!!!
I dont know much about whether its good or bad...but a local hunt yard used to feed all of their hunt horses a huge amount of bread daily..they used to get lorry deliveries of the stuff!! hunt horses always looked fantastic and went well on it!!

No... It's just grain & sugar - natural horsey things!

Tosh.
Just because horses can digest some grains and sugars, doesn't mean they can digest all types.
It is more the yeast in bread that causes a problem - whilst yeast can be beneficial to a horses gut, it is most dependent on the type of yeast and form in which it is fed. Yeast mixed with flour, water and other preservatives and then cooked ain't good yeast

I realised as soon as I'd written t how silly it looked!
More what I meant was: I think one slice as a treat is not going to kill a horse.
I used to feed half a slice or so to ours as a treat but only very occasionally - I preferred to give them some carrot batons. Although there was an occasion where my mare nudged the lid off of my lunch box and pegged off with an entire cheese sandwich!!
some picnicers once fed my pony their sandwiches over the fence - he then had a really bad case of impaction colic caused by the bread swelling - ending up in the vet college.
i never feed bread to anything - not even a nibble of burger bap at a show!
I know of quite a few breeders who regularly feed their mares loaves and loaves of bread. Horrifies me. I have nothing against feeding a limited amount, a slice or two occasionally.
My share horse gets the occasional half/quarter slice of bread, but only ever very stale. He loves it. I have been told (gawd knows by who) that the occasional small amount of very dry and stale bread won't do much harm.
I'm more concerned about the large quantities of carrots he consumes, TBH.
Murphy gets a slice of bread with Jam in it everyday to have his bute.
He is field kept and can't be fed in field with other horses about and doesn't really need feeding so this works a trea. Have done it for years over the summer months and it never causes a problem.
