A few questions for you guys if you don't mind overly so?

1. a) Do you feed a specific brand(s) of feed?
b) Do you stick to this/these brand(s)?
c) Was your choice influenced through research/word of mouth/because you always have done/what's available?

2. What do you feed your in-foal broodmares at this time of year?

3. What do you feed your weanlings at this time of year?

4. Do you feed your yearlings/2yo's/3yo's differently? As in different type of feed.

5. How much forage do you feed compared with concentrates?

Can't think of anymore - you'll probably be glad to hear

I can only answer part of that - Bloss gets Baileys Stud Balancer and has 2lbs a day with a handful of dengie good-doer. She has a large net of haylage in the evenings (i have no idea how much it weighs tho). She has had the same all throughout her pregnancy (shes nearly 5months now) and will carry on having the same until mini-bloss is born.

I always use Baileys as they are really helpful and tell you exactly how much to feed etc and what to feed.

I agree with P_G. My mare's both early in pregnancy and the mare who is foal and with foal at foot are all on Baileys Stud Balancer, as is my 2 year old gelding. Wouldn't use anything else personally as they have always done so well on it and Bailey's is incredibly helpful if advice needed.

1. A) B)Everything gets Spillers, with the exception of Alfa A Oil.
C) Influenced by having fed everything else, and knowing it is the best.
2. My mare (in foal and with foal) has been on nothing but grass since she came back from stud (foal was about 6 weeks by then).
3. The foal will shortly be going onto Spillers Yearling Pellets, oats and Alfa Oil.
4. As 1/2/3 yos they will be on Oats, Alfa Oil and either HandP cubes/stud cubes/power cubes depending on how they look and level of work.
5. Youngsters get loads of haylage.

To be honest I have always kept is simple with youngstock, good quality hay/haylage and a small amount of concentrate (about 65% forage and 35% concentrate), good quality chaff (usually alfa a), general minerals and locally bruised barley with some beet (added garlic as the horses loved it). However I am a bit old school. I did once feed a stud mix to a mare in the latter months towards foaling but out vet looked over the contents of the mix and made sure it wouldnt clash with the minerals (he found that some owners had mixed minerals with a mix and all the mares got the runs). My mares were in a 15 acre field with plenty of grass in the summer and most of the way into the autumn which they thrived on. I never had to change anything and the mares were good doers which meant I had to watch and not over feed them! My experience came from working at a german run stud where I was surrounded by youngsters, it worked for them so I just did the same with my own mares.

Not sure if I have helped at all

1. a) Do you feed a specific brand(s) of feed? no sometimes the store doesnt have the usual one-baileys.also use topspec, blue chip.
b) Do you stick to this/these brand(s)?as much as poss.
c) Was your choice influenced through research/word of mouth/because you always have done/what's available?i wanted a balancer only as mare is very good doer.

2. What do you feed your in-foal broodmares at this time of year?grown win/baileys stud balancer/blue chip/topspec broodmare and youngster suppliment, plus hay, grass and hifi.

3. What do you feed your weanlings at this time of year?same as above-but not feeding the baileys.also sometimes give surelimb.

4. Do you feed your yearlings/2yo's/3yo's differently? As in different type of feed.i generally get things that are suitable in varying quanities for all horses.

5. How much forage do you feed compared with concentrates?mostly forage.think its only a few mugs of balancer, and handful of hifi.if they need more then i add in either a bit of oil or some more grass.

BAILEYS, D&H

b) Do you stick to this/these brand(s)?
Tend To.

c) Was your choice influenced through research/word of mouth/because you always have done/what's available?
Done via research. We have our own mix made up and this is in conjunction with a nutritionist and against the feeding value of our own home grown haylege. We have specialist minerals and get in other minerals from Germany.

2. What do you feed your in-foal broodmares at this time of year?
They are out at grass and get haylege at night. They have a scoop of our own mix at night along with chaff and minerals

3. What do you feed your weanlings at this time of year?
They are on Baileys Ultimate Finish, minerals and chaff

4. Do you feed your yearlings/2yo's/3yo's differently? As in different type of feed.
Nope, still our own mix, possibly ultimate finish, minerals, chaff and haylege.

5. How much forage do you feed compared with concentrates?
Would be more forage to concentrates although the concentrate does get increased the nearer to foaling.
