Feeding carcasses

My (large) dogs are raw fed, minced meat/tripe and bones. I have fed the odd chicken or rabbit carcass in the past as a treat but recently I found out that a local kennels feeds just carcasses to their own dogs.

Anyone on here fo this? I've had a quick Google but there seem to be divided opinion on whether it's ok or not.

I hate messing about with the raw mince, squeezing it out of it's packaging and getting my hands covered in blood and guts. The idea of just tossing each dog a carcass is very appealing!

Might take one or two dogs quite a while to get through the whole cow/horse/sheep that I believe are thrown into hounds..but, joking aside, no knowledge of raw feeding.

I don't personally feed carcasses but that's mostly because Dobby won't eat bone that isn't minced.

I feed mine raw, and did many years of puppy walking for my local hunt so have also got experience of feeding carcasses as you describe.
Personally, I’m fussier with mine as the type of bone can cause issues. You want to be able to push your nail through the bone. I do my own raw prep, and they get duck necks and chicken feet, and chicken wings as their bone portion. I also boil up chicken carcasses, ham hocks etc and make very gelatinous bone broth to add to their food which they all LOVE.

When avaliable ours have had rabbit, chicken, grouse, goose and pheasant carcass, if feeding carcass you should feed the whole thing to get your ratios correct.

I used to feed whole rabbits, jacket on, and whole stripped chicken carcasses or whole pigeons. I think that’s fine, just remember they need the offal too and too much bone might cause poo issues-too dry, for example.

They help themselves to pigeons, when they can catch them!

I feed carcasses as a treat, i like my 'ready made' raw food which takes the pressure off me getting it right doing DIY! I wouldnt feel comfortable just doing carcasses.

I feed all sorts - raw, kibble, whole carcass (rabbit, hare, lamb) or part thereof. Sometimes I ask hubby to skin them, sometimes not. I also feed raw egg, sardines, butchers tripe, boiled mince. Variety is the spice of life and it seems to suit my lot.
