Feeding carrots

I don't feed my mare carrots, or alfalfa, as both send her bonkers. If it affects her behaviour so much goodness only knows what it does to how she feels  Our German Shepherd x bitch has developed a huge problem with carrots, over christmas she was so odd, pacing in circles, until she dropped from being so tired. We made sure she had nothing but meat for a few days and she has recovered completely, although she had a set back when we cooked carrots for us to eat and she started again. Carrots are now banned in our house!

My elderly TB loves carrots - she picks them out of her feed first! She has 6/7 in her dinner and 3/4 in her breakfast. Never made her bonkers or fizzy. My ISH isn't that fussed so she just gets one per feed or sometimes a parsnip or apple instead. My TB only likes carrots - she won't eat apples and spits parsnips out should you dare to put them in her bucket!

I always add carrots to feed in winter, think it helps when no grass as mine live out 24/7 and have hay november to march. I feed a few whole to avoid choking or bolting in their daily feed. Buy 10kg from feed store lasts about a week between 4 of them. Used to be free or almost free when I lived in Norfolk near veg packing plant as got odd shape and broken ones!
They are one of mine's absolute favourite food above all else. The others vary - some eat them last others first!
