ive been reccomended to change my horses feed and start using this.

im struggling to get weight on him... and hes ribs are still obvious even when standing.

he currently has

barley plus,
sugar beet,
conditioning cubes
hifi light.

2-3 times a day.

if hes in he has haylege. other wise hes out on not so good grazing.

one of the issues i have is hes in fairley hard work. although i have backed off the 10 mile fast hacks!

hes currentley affliated showing and hes just not got that show ring conditon (i know more topline also needed. )

so how do you rate the equi jewel.. or would you suggest feeding anything else? hes a spooky lad and fit so i dont want to feed anything heating if possible..

If he's already spooky etc I'd drop the barley, and prob the conditioning cubes as well. I's be aiming for high fibre high oil diet.

I'd start feeding alfa A in stead of the hifi, he's a big lad, so could have 4 scoops a day happily, and try the equi jewl with it.

Or, use the alfa a with speedi beet a good balancer and a mug of oil a day

If your grazing is poor could he have haylage in the field as well?

the barley i use is non heating, i had him on a high fibre diet when i first had him and it done little for him.

he currently has linseed oil aswell, (for got that)

not possible to put hayledge in the field as hes out with 3 others that the owner wouldnt be willing to pay for.

i am moving hes field as soon as it dries up again, but its a small field that will only give him a week of good grass,

He looks fine in those pics - don't go trying to pile weight on just to please showing judges! I'm sure once the grass comes through he will put weight on anyway!

You could try Winergy Equilibrium Condition - low starch, high fibre. It's a complete feed so you could cut everything else out apart from the sugar beet. I used it on my stupidly spooky 4yr old all winter and she didn't drop an ounce even when fully clipped.

i think to be honest hes dropped a fair bit recently, im not going to make him fat,. but id like be able to do a couple of long hacks a week and not worry..

we tend to cover 10-12 miles within 2 hours.. i enjoy this, and so does he, but i do feel the hacking has been play a large part on the weight.

What TGM said, he really doesn't look like he needs more weight on in the pictures you've posted.

I's possibly cut out the conditioning cubes and the barley and swap to Alpha A Oil and a balancer, with Speedibeet.

If you really want to put condition on him either Outshine of Equijewel would be a good choice.

If you really do think he needs extra, then why not change the Hi Fi Lite to Alfa A Oil - Hi Fi Lite is really a diet food for porky horses so won't supply many calories, whereas Alfa A Oil has as many calories as some conditioning mixes. If that is still not enough you could feed a high oil supplement such as Equijewel or Outshine - Outshine is the more concentrated in calories of the two, providing 24 MJDE/kg compared to 15 MJDE/kg for Equijewel.

to be honest ive never used a balancer of anytype so am totally clueless..

so can i drop the barley and conditioning nuts. .. (i cant drop sugarbeet, as he wont eat with out it) and ad the equi jewel etc?

he really does need more of a covering over the ribs.. i appricate he may just be that type of horse, but for the showing aspect he does need it, it has been commented on in the ring, and is keeping me out of the top 2 on occasions.

i got him in january, and over the past 8 weeks have tried to let him down a bit, knowing full well that i will be busy competeing in the summer, hes also just about to start some intensive dressage lessons, and some long hacks planned.. moors beaches (although after the sod dumping me in the sea i may miss out the riding in the sea bit and yes you may all laugh.)

basically, its the trainer im going to be using that has suggested the equi jewel.

ive always used hi fi lite, and do prefure to not feed to much sugar..

the sugar beet bulks up up a fair bit the high fi, just to ad the bulk to slow him down.

so...

drop the hi fi., replace with alpha oil.. AND also drop the linseed oil?

would i be better to feed say..

sugar beet,
alpha a
and equi jewel.

still feed over 2-3 feeds? (2 when hes out 3 if hes in)

and im gussing i still need a mix, or vitamin supplement?

Yes, that would work

I equijewl isn't fully supplemented, so you'd need to feed a vit and min supplement along side, or a balancer.

A balancer is designed to be fed in small quantities and is designed to supply all the vits mins etc that your horse would need along with protiens etc so they are great for feeding with a fibre based diet. Have a look on the topspec website, there's loads of info on there
